Review: My favorite genre is Historical Fiction. This book, “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles is based on a true story during World War II. The heroic librarians at the American Library in Paris join the resistance with the best weapon they had – books. They kept the Library open during the Occupation and continued to serve their loyal patrons, even through hard times.

As a new librarian, I loved connecting with Odile (the main character) and learning about her experience. Literature is powerful and I loved reading about her passion for books, connection to her patrons and her relationships. The parallel storyline takes place in the 1980’s and is very endearing. This book touches on many different aspects of life and explores the consequences of our choices. The historical aspect of World War II was eye opening. We often hear a lot of stories regarding the Holocaust, but the implications during the French Occupation was illuminating.
