Ethan Cragg, Director

Greetings! I’m the eldest of eleven, an aspiring writer, and a theologically philosophical sort whose childhood dream was to work within a library. I’ve since graduated from SUNY Canton with a Liberal Arts Degree with a focus on Creative Writing, successfully started a writer’s group when I was 15 that still exists today, and have been wonderfully supported by my loving family and my Catholic faith. Now, I am eager to use these experiences to do my best and to provide a great experience through exciting programs, a relaxing atmosphere, and an air of enthusiasm for all the people of Waddington and beyond.
The type of book I enjoy the most could be from a variety of genres and styles; some of my consistent favorites are esoteric epics of sci-fi and fantasy like ‘Book of the New Sun’ by Gene Wolfe or Tolkien’s Legendarium, deeply cathartic character focused stories like ‘The Little Princess’ by Frances Hodgson Burnett, wry yet fulfilling comedies like ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ by Oscar Wilde or ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ by Lemony Snicket, and I even indulge in historical texts as they have some of the most fascinating stories one can enjoy. My favorite stories encompass other mediums as well, from stage plays and film to video games and even music. (Hector Berlioz’s ‘Symphonie fantastique’ has a wild narrative.) Though I may have a quiet disposition, there is always a story I am happy to talk about.

All my life I have been an avid reader and growing up my mom would always take my brother and I to the Norfolk library to get new books every month. Libraries have always been some of my favorite places and I wish that I realized sooner how much I would enjoy working with books and helping other people find new books to enjoy. While I have previously worked as a resident funeral director and as a supervisor at the Bon-Ton, I have plans to get my Master’s Degree in Library Science. My favorite books include “Jane Eyre,” “And, Then There Were None,” and “Sky in the Deep.” I am always reading a book and enjoy physical books, audiobooks, and just recently have explored e-books. I can’t wait to get to know the Waddington community and support all members with their reading needs!

I have always loved reading and libraries. Growing up in Albany, NY, I remember going to a very small branch library. My mother was an English teacher and so there were always a lot of books in our home. When I moved to the North Country, I was employed at the Ogdensburg Pubic Library for many years. When I moved to Waddington, I was fortunate to be added to the library staff as a substitute, a job which I enjoy very much. I remember taking my children to library story hour when they were pre-schoolers, which led them to become avid readers as well. My favorite type of book is historical fiction and I always have a pile of books waiting to be read. I borrow so many books, I think I might be the Waddington Library’s best customer. I am also a member of the Friends of the Waddington Library and the book club.
